Au Gratin Potatoes

Au Gratin Potatoes



Ingredients

3 lbs Yukon gold potatoes – sliced 1/8 inch thick

½ white or yellow onion cut into slices


Sauce

2 tbs salted butter

¼ cup flour

1 ½ cup milk

8 oz sharp cheddar cheese

½ tsp garlic powder

¾ tsp salt

Pepper


Topping

½ cup sharp cheddar cheese

¼ cup grated parmesan



Directions

Heat oven to 375 degrees

Spray 8x12 baking dish with cooking spray


Sauce

Add butter to pan on med heat

Once melted

Wisk in 1/3 of the flour

Slowly add in the milk

Whisk to remove any lumps

Repeat till all flour and milk are combined

Bring to a simmer

Lower the heat

Slowly add in the cheddar cheese

Once all cheese is combined


You may need to add more milk if too thick


Add garlic powder salt and pepper

Taste and add more S&P if needed


Slice the potatoes 1/8 in thick

Slice the onions 1/8 in thick


Placed a layer of potatoes

Add layer of onion

Repeat until all potatoes and onions are used

Power over the potatoes


Cover with foil

Bake for 1 ½ hour minutes


Remove foil

Top with cheese and parmesan


Return to the oven

Cook for 15-30 minutes

Potatoes are done once they are fork tender


Remove an let rest for 15 minutes
